| Objective | Specific objectives Development of entrepreneurship among rural youth and women Rehabilitation of agriculture and food security in rural areas The aim of the project is to give young people and women the support to become farmer. A minimum of 50% will be women and also a minimum of 50% of the total group will be younger than 30 years. The needed land is available from family and/or the community. The teaching and guidance will be done by a local TVET and field workers. As 4YBIN we want to stimulate and facilitate entrepreneurship so that the supported young people and women can build on their own means of income and make them less dependent of donor money in their future. Activities to undertake The first phase of the project consists of carrying out a pilot project with 10 farmers starting in 2023 which has as its purpose: • Proof of concept for a sustainable business model. • Introduce the concept of “Farming is a business”. • Production and usage of organic fertilizer (compost) resulting in a higher yield compared to chemical fertilizer and addressing the shortage of chemical fertilizer. • Usage of organic repellents or insecticides to replace chemicals and pesticides currently used • Implementation of a plant schedule with multiple (3) harvests per year. • Incre1ase productivity. As the pilot runs succesfully we have now started the 2nd Phase of this project whereby we will help 30 farmers. |

Activities to undertake This 2nd phase of the project consists of carrying out a full year project starting in July 2024 which has as its purpose: • Proof of concept for a sustainable business model. • Introduce the concept of “Farming is a business”. • Production and usage of organic fertilizer (compost) resulting in a higher yield compared to chemical fertilizer and addressing the shortage of chemical fertilizer. • Usage of organic repellents or insecticides to replace chemicals and pesticides currently used • Implementation of a plant schedule with multiple (3) harvests per year. However, due to climate issues it was not possible to do the 3rd harvest. Instead we have used the resources for reconstruction of the canal system needed for irrigation during the dry season. Not just the 30 farmers in this Phase, but approx. 100 farmers in the area will benefit. • Increase productivity. |
