| Objective | Specific objectives Development of entrepreneurship among rural youth and women Rehabilitation of agriculture and food security in rural areas The aim of the project is to give young women the support to become poultry farmer. Those women are the housewife of a farmer responsible for the household and raising the children. This project will bring extra income for the farmer family that can be used for food and education of the children. As 4YBIN we want to stimulate and facilitate entrepreneurship so that the supported young people and women can build on their own means of income and make them less dependent of donor money in their future. Activities to undertake The country’s main poultry production system, which contributes to more than 90% of the total national production of poultry meat and eggs, is characterized by the production of a small number of local low-yielding chickens (30-80 eggs/chicken/year), with a size of 5-6 chickens per family. The chickens are not fed but gather their food outside during the day and are given shelter in the house during the night. There are a limited number of companies that operate poultry in a professional manner. In this project, we will train the women and provide them with the necessary elements (such as chicken coop and concentrates), so that the chickens lay >250 eggs per year. This will create a sustainable model. Project completed We are happy to report that this projct is succesfully completed. Thanks to institutional donors from the Netherlands we were able to train 45 women and give them the chicken and facilities to start their chicken business. The hens are healthy and lay >250 eggs per year. The women are generating a good income from the sales of the eggs. |
